What I do now
Most of my code is now written by agents. The engineering has moved to the work before and after it: architecture, clear objectives, guardrails, orchestration, CI/CD and review. I still enjoy it.
I learn by building. Most weekends end with a small project: a webcam game, an on-device AI prototype, a one-shot test of a new model, or a Raspberry Pi agent with an LED screen. They end up in Projects and Notes.
How I got here
I started on the other side of the code: systems administration, then years of systems analysis, turning what customers needed into specs for developers. In 2020 I started writing the code myself. Since then I have led a development team at GoCloud Systems, where I set up CI/CD, Git workflows and AWS standards, and built SaaS and investment platforms at Nomos One and Fisher Funds. Along the way I picked up AWS certifications: Developer and Solutions Architect – Associate, and DevOps Engineer – Professional.
Outside work I built OvenOps, a bakery management app, and the online shop for Sweetest Batch, an Auckland bakery.
