Testing DeepSeek v4
A solid model and a new developer agent in my Hermes workflows.
Tested DeepSeek v4 over the long weekend. I wouldn’t say I was impressed, but it’s a genuinely solid model, so I’ve added it as a developer agent in my Hermes workflows.
Most people seem to prefer Flash over Pro, but I haven’t noticed a major difference so far.
The first thing I tried was my favourite test: self-promotion. I asked DeepSeek to write a prompt for itself to one-shot a web app showcasing its capabilities, then fed that prompt into Claude Code using DeepSeek v4 Pro.
Result: https://v4-one-shot-demo.madeby.dev - a strong one-shot plus four follow-ups.
Given the very competitive token pricing (especially with current discounts) and the fact that DeepSeek is still optimising its infrastructure, I’m pretty happy with it overall.
